CRA letter in Canada: understand the request and check the sender

If a letter claims to come from the Canada Revenue Agency, first identify what it asks you to do, the tax year involved and any response deadline. Sense Bridge can translate the text and explain the request; it cannot authenticate the sender or decide your tax position.

What should I check in a CRA letter?

Find the subject, reference, relevant tax year, requested documents and response instructions. A request for supporting documents is different from a notice of assessment. Do not assume that every letter is a demand for payment.

How can I check whether the contact is genuine?

Open Canada.ca independently and use the CRA’s official contact and account routes. Compare the message with information in your account where available. A familiar logo or accurate personal details do not prove authenticity.

What can Sense Bridge help me do?

Add a readable photo, PDF or pasted text. Ask for a plain-language explanation, the requested action and any deadlines stated in the document. You can also prepare a reply asking which supporting documents are needed. Review the draft before sending it yourself.

What if the deadline is unclear?

Keep the original letter and envelope. Check whether the period runs from a stated date or another event. Ask the CRA through a verified contact route if you need clarification. The app does not file returns, contact the CRA or extend a deadline.
